The NonHollywoodization of Clay

*Written sometime after AI5

Something occurred to me during the recent appearances of The Clay We All Know And Love But With New Bangs…

Back when Clay won American Idol, I was…….

What?

He didn't?

Meh…don't bother me with technicalities….

Anyway….I was worried at the time. Not worried about his career….I knew his talent would take care of that. I was worried that Hollywood would get ahold of him and chew him up and spit him out. Worried that they would turn him into just another smug, jaded, self-absorbed pop star. Worried that they would suck the good right out of him.

And they tried. With a little help from some friends, they gave it their best shot.

And they failed mightily.

It is glaringly apparent that if anything, they only succeeded in strengthening his resolve. His resolve to be a decent human being. His resolve to contribute something positive to society. His resolve to be himself.

I am relieved, grateful and encouraged that the 'walking, freckled dryer sheet' is living proof that not even Hollywood is a vacuum strong enough to suck the good out of Clay Aiken.

Other Stuff

Shamelessly stealing this idea from aiken4clay627....

Other interests:

TV
Law and Order (any except SVU)
Burn Notice (can't help it. Hooked.)
Monk
Scrubs
Beauty and the Geek (it's a family ritual to watch it)

Music
This list would be way too long. But, current things in heavy rotation on my ipod this week (besides Clay) include

Primus
Rocky Votolano
Feist

The Clash
Roisin Murphy

Other things I don't seem to have time for:
Scrapbooking
Writing
Movies
Crafting
Playing piano

Things that should just go away:

Rudeness
Tabloids, the people who produce them, AND PEOPLE WHO FEED THEM THE CRAP THEY PRINT
Improper use of apostrophes (if it shows possesion or indicates missing letters, there should be one. If it's a plural there should not. EVER. Can you tell this is a pet peeve of mine?)
Rap "Music"
This extra 5 pounds
